From Staatsgalerie, Stuttgart:
Following the end of the Cubist period dominated by the dismantling of forms, Picasso returned to a holistic, indeed virtually classicistic approach to the presentation of figures. This change was brought on by Picasso's visit to Rome in 1917 an his work as a stage designer for Diaghilev's Russian Ballet.
