From Philadelphia Museum of Art:
The thick volumes and rich colors of Picasso's paintings of 1908 reflect his deep interest in African sculpture while the upturned perspectives of the still-lifes suggest his attention to Cézanne. X-rays of this canvas reveal an earlier image of a standing nude woman, similar to other figurative paintings Picasso made that year. The faint outline of the woman's face can be seen in the upper center of the canvas, in the dark space between the jug and the bowl.
