From Staatsgalerie, Stuttgart:
Picasso's late work abounds with reclining nudes that reflect the artist's engagement with the subject of painter and model. They explore questions of the role of the artist and increasingly also outright eroticism. These paintings concretise Picasso's notion of creativity, which regards art and sexuality as mutually dependent. By reworking the theme time and again, he seeks to express his inner perception and the appearance of the model as truthfully as possible.
